About Communication

Communication is obviously a very important facet of our daily lives and indeed in our interactions with one another. Because of this, it is vital that we understand how to communicate effectively. In endeavors such as our podcast project, it becomes even more important due to the fact that we must recognize how to communicate through both a cultural and linguistic barrier. Communicating effectively requires that both parties, the speaker and addressee, to understand how much each other knows and what can be assumed. Knowing when to be explicit and knowing when cues can be left out is vital.
In addition to that, it is important that, in a situation where another language is involved, one be proactive in trying to learn linguistically. Going beyond the scope of the class can sometimes give one a different perspective on how to communicate effectively through the aforementioned barriers of language and culture.

  1. It is ture that, even without a cultural and linguistic barrier, to communicate effectively with other people is often difficult.

  3. ああ、そうですね。Good points there. I especially agree on the part on the going beyond the scope of the class. Besides our benefit in getting used to being independent learners, it also gives us another perspective to look into.

  4. Right, Jose. Language in general is a really interesting tool in being able to understand people who may not necessarily have the same background as you. I think in order to develop a better understanding of cultures in different regions of the world, understanding the language is very important.
